He went on to complete 33 missions with No 101 Squadron RAF on Lancasters in World War II. He lived at Nurmurkah, Vic for many years and built a light aircraft known as the Mayfly. It was built of tubular steel taken from the airframe of a retired Air Force Avro Anson. It was fabric covered and powered by a two-cylinder conversion of a Volkswagen engine.
