History:
In July 1988 it was announced a Swedish inventor of the World’s first cardboard aircraft “which is also radar-proof and fire-resistant”, was setting up business in Australia. Mr Jan Holmstedt invented “the revolutionary paper composite material, the cardboard being impregnated with secret emulsions, is lighter than steel, but stronger and cheaper, has strong insulation properties, will not conduct electricity or noise, and will not disintegrate when burnt.” It was said a prototype was being tested for military applications, and “the Swedish Defence Forces are examining its uses for pilotless military reconnaissance and target spotting aircraft”. It was also said it could be used for bushfire detection. A second prototype was said to be under construction in Perth.
