History:
The Karaone was one of a series of light aircraft produced by the Australian Aircraft Works (AAW). This Company obtained rights to a series of aircraft from the US Company, Grover Textiles, the parent company deciding not to continue its financial backing to its ultralight division, Grover Aircraft of Hendersonville, North Carolina, due to concern about liability exposure. Rights to the designs were obtained by Mr Jesse Anglin and he formed Country Air to take over the Grover Aircraft operations. The Australian company, AAW, obtained rights from Country Air to construct kits from the range and market them in the south Pacific from the 1980s and a number of models have been produced.
The Karaone was a single-seat parasol-wing aircraft similar to the Karasport and has similar specifications. One was registered with Recreation Aviation Australia (RAA) as an Andres Shay Karra One, becoming 10-1309 (c/n K1-002) on 17 October 1991 and was powered by a Jabiru 1600 engine. It was withdrawn from service in 2004 and when restored it became 19-1309.
