History:
The Legend 540 and Legend 600 have been produced in the Czech Republic by Aeropilot and are an 80% scale Cessna 182E produced at Caslav for the world light sport aircraft market. The model numbers relates to the max take-off weight as imposed by the local civil aviation authorities; in Europe being 540 kg (1,190 lb) and in Australia being 600 kg (1,322 lb). Aeropilot Ltd commenced work on the LSA aircraft in November 2010 and the prototype was finalised in April 2011.
The fuselage of the aircraft was constructed using sandwich technology with a carbon composite material . It had a door on each side. The wing was constructed of similar sandwich design with carbon composite material, there being two fuel tanks installed. The wing was fitted with a slotted Fowler flap. The undercarriage was of tricycle type with nosewheel steering and the wheels were fitted with hydraulic circular brakes. Two engines were usually available to be installed, the Rotax 912UL and the Rotax 912ULS. A two-blade electrically-adjustable Woodcomp SR-3000/2W propeller or a three-blade aeroelastic Woodcomp Klassic propeller were available.
The type has been popular and was first shown to the aviation market at AERO Friedrichshafen in Germany from 13 to 16 April 2011. It usually has had a tricycle undercarriage installed but examples have been fitted with floats or amphibious floats, one being supplied to an operator in Mauritius. A rocket rescue system could be installed.
First example of the type in Australia was a Legend 600 which became 24-8714 with RAA, being shipped to Australia in July 2015 and being registered later that year. The type has been marketed in Australia by Silent Wings Aviation, which received certification from the Australian Civil Aviation Authority for the first LSA Legend 600 on 11 September 2015.
