History:
The Airdrome Aeroplanes Fokker Dr.1 was a 75% scale replica of the famous Triplane World War I fighter and has been supplied to the builder in kit form. It was of aluminium tubular construction and had removable three-piece wings which were transportable. It was available in quick-build form and used a modern two-stroke engine. It has been described as light and responsive on the controls. The type was one of a number of scale replica fighter aircraft from World War I produced by the company at its facility in Holden, Missouri, USA.
Examples completed in Australia registered under RAA Regulations include 19-7754 fitted with a Rotec R-2800 radial engine and 19-7379 (c/n DR1007) fitted with an AeroVEE 2180 engine. One example made a forced landing near Gatton, QLD in the Lockyer Valley on 1 July 2017.
Airdrome Aeroplanes has also produced a 100% scale variant of the Dr.1 in kit form for construction and an example of this model arrived at Whitianga in New Zealand in January 2017 for construction.
