History:
The Phenom 100 was one of a range of executive turbofan-powered aircraft built by the Brazilian company Embraer. In April 2005 the Company’s Board of Directors approved the Company entering the very light jet market and subsequently two models were developed, the Models 100 and 300.
The prototype was rolled out of the production facility on 16 June 2007, first flight being made on 26 July 2007. Brazilian certification was received on 9 December 2008 and FAA certification on 12 December 2008. First production aircraft was delivered on 24 December 2008 and CASA in Australia issued Type Certification on 16 August 2009.
Production continued for civil and military operators, three being delivered to the Pakistan Air Force for VIP duties. The aircraft had accommodation for a pilot and four passengers as standard, with up to a maximum seating of six. The interior was designed by the BMW Group Designworks, USA and Garman provided the integrated avionics suite. Max range was 2,182 km (1,356 miles). Power was supplied by 1,695 lbst Pratt & Whitney Canada PW 617F turbofans which had an automatic performance reserve feature which boosted power output to 1,777 lbst in the event of an engine failure on take-off.
A Phenom 100 made a demonstration tour of Australia in March 2010, following its appearance at the Singapore Air Show, making flights from Perth, WA; Melbourne, VIC; Sydney, NSW; Cairns, QLD; Brisbane, QLD and the Gold Coast, QLD.
In mid 2010 Embraer announced two examples had been sold in Australia, the first arriving late that year. The first became VH-PNM (c/n 50000206 – ex N200XT) on 8 November 2010, being registered as an EMB 500 Phenom 100 to Dos Equis Pty Ltd of West Melbourne and operated by GoJep Pty Ltd of Port Kembla, NSW, later being owned by Elphinstone Group (Aust) Pty Ltd of Burnie, TAS, and operated by Revesco Aviation Pty Ltd of Perth, WA. In 2010 Embraer delivered 100 examples of the Phenom 100.
Further examples have since arrived, including VH-FJP (c/n 50000237) for the China Southern West Australian Flying College at Jandakot, WA, followed by VH-LWZ (c/n 50000306) for the same operator. These aircraft have been used for pilot training at the college at Jandakot, the first being obtained in 2012 and the second in 2013, operating over 4,000 hours a year.
