History:
Once the Hawker 800 series was placed in production British Aerospace looked at a further development of the type and, despite being the most capable model of all the various models, only 52 examples were completed.
The Series 1000 was marketed as an aircraft with intercontinental capability, being able to fly sectors such as the Atlantic non-stop, or the United Kingdom to Australia with two stops. However, testing revealed a range shortfall of 740 km (460 miles) due to drag, other aerodynamic problems, and problems associated with the engines. Eventually, after further design work, the 1000 managed to have a capability of 5,550 km (3,449 miles), giving it a non-stop United States coast-to-coast ability.
Visually the Series 1000 differed considerably from the Series 800, having the more powerful Pratt & Whitney turbofan engines with FADEC, an 84 cm (33 in) longer cabin, seven windows on each side, a lengthened forward wing / fuselage fairing which allowed for a larger ventral tank increasing fuel capacity and giving a max take-off weight of 14,063 kg (31,000 lb).
Three development airframes were built, the first (G-EXLR) flying for the first time at Chester in Cheshire on 16 June 1990, deliveries commencing in late 1991 but production ceasing in 1997.
An example has been registered in Australia, this aircraft becoming VH-LMP² (c/n 259022 – ex G-5-734) registered on 10 July 1992 to Boston LHF of Essendon, VIC, being operated by Shortstop Jet Charter. This aircraft was exported on 20 July 2017 as T7-SMA.
