History:
The Mynah 2 was a one-off homebuilt light biplane aircraft and, although designed by Wallace and Robert McNair, it had no resemblance or linkage with the McNair Mynah, which is dealt with elsewhere. Developed in Auckland, NZ, the prototype was built in the mid-1980s and was fitted with a two-cylinder engine built by Arrow in Italy. Construction was of fibreglass and the wings were built of folded aluminium channel extrusion for the spars, pressed aluminium ribs and an aluminium leading-edge. The general covering of the aircraft was light-weight Mylar. The aircraft had the fuel tanks built into the leading-edge of the lower wings. Seating was provided for two in tandem. The designers had the idea that the aircraft may eventually be put into production in kit form but this did not occur.
The aircraft became ZK-FWT (c/n 001/MAANZ/450) and was registered on 25 October 1990 to Wallace and Robert McNair, and Alan Stewart of Tuatapere in Southland. It has been a regular visitor to aviation events since its registration. It was eventually sold to Mr R A Hansen of Huntly in August 1993 and subsequently has been hangared at Glen Murray in Waikato, but has not been known to have flown in recent years.
