History:
The S-6 Coyote II is one of the new series of light aircraft produced by Rans Inc at Hays in Kansas, USA in kit form for amateur builders. Construction is of steel tube with fabric covering. Many small parts are completed by the manufacturer for the builder. The Coyote II can be built with either a tailwheel or tricycle undercarriage. Seating is for two side-by-side, and one, an S-6ES, has crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice. The S-6 series was introduced in 1990 and development has continued.
The second generation of the original design had an extended wingspan, and eventually three different design wings were made available as options. The S-6ES Coyote II has standard aircraft fabric, drag reducing fairings, and has become known as the Super Six. More than 1,500 examples have been sold and engines ranging from 35 kw (47 hp) to 60 kw (80 hp) may be installed.
The Coyote is available in two versions, the S-6ES Coyote II with the 56 kw (75 hp) Rotax 912, and the S-6S Coyote II with the 60 kw (80 hp) variant of that engine. In Australia it may be registered or flown under AUF / RAA regulations. Examples completed in New Zealand include ZK-RNS (c/n 893530) and ZK-VSI (c/n 396949). Further examples have been imported, including ZK-PWP and ZK-SGS, the latter being fitted with a 75 kw (100 hp) Chevrolet Corvair six-cylinder engine.
