David C Eyre
In the early 1980s aircraft enthusiast, David C Eyre was asked if he would prepare a book that would provide information and photographs of all the aircraft then extant in Australia and New Zealand.
This was to include aircraft in operation (civil and military), museums, private collections etc.
The request was welcomed and the book was published as “The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft in Australia and New Zealand”. A second edition was prepared and published in 1988, and a third edition was prepared for publication in the early 1990s but was not published.
Since then the author has continued to research aircraft types which have been involved in aviation history in Australia and New Zealand.
This website covers all types of powered aircraft that have operated in Australia and New Zealand, both civil and military, many home-builts, ultralights, gyrocopters and powered gliders.
Some have had to be dealt with in Appendix A as little is known about a number of designs which were constructed, not completed or not flown.
The author is always updating the website and is open to assistance from enthusiasts who have information and photographs of rare aircraft types.
