History:
The Eurofox was manufactured by Aeropro in Nitra, Slovakia, and was a factory-built, ready-to-fly aircraft, being developed by that Company for the Very Light Aircraft (VLA) market. Development of the design commenced in 1990, the concept being based on the Avid Flyer but many refinements were made to the design, the prototype being a two-seat high-wing microlight with a tail-wheel undercarriage.
Aeropro was formed in 1992 to build the aircraft and further models were produced, including the Eurofox Basic and the Eurofox Pro, these two models being shown to the public at AERO Friedrichshafen 1997 in Germany. A further model was produced known as the Eurofox Space, this having a more spacious cabin, which was 112 cm (44 in) across the fuselage at its widest point. This model was also fitted with a fixed tricycle undercarriage with nosewheel steering.
Standard engine was the 60 kw (80 hp) Rotax 912S but the 75 kw (100 hp) 912ULS variant could also be installed with a three-blade Fiti propeller, this providing a cruising speed of 177 km/h (110 mph) and a rate of climb of 299 m/min (980 ft/min). Entrance was through two gullwing doors, which could be removed if required. The wings could be folded for storage or trailering, the width of the aircraft when the wings were folded being 2.25 m (7 ft 4½ in). More than 300 examples have been completed.
The first two seen in this region arrived in January 2007 for the Australian distributor, Horsham Aviation Services, VIC. These aircraft were equipped with factory options including a Dynon Avionics Electronic Flight Information System and registered under RAA Regulations.
Further examples have been registered under RAA Regulations, including 24-7771, 24-7772, 24-7773, 24-7774, 24-7502, 24-7271, and 24-7272.
By late 2014 examples had been registered in New Zealand, becoming ZK-TUG and ZK-TGC. Eurofox ZK-TOW became ZK-TUG² (c/n 38213) to the Canterbury Gliding Club of Sockburn, NZ, in mid 2016, the aircraft having previously operated in Australia with the RAA registration 24-8200.
Further development of the series led to the Eurofox 914L Turbo, which was fitted with a Rotax 914UL turbocharged engine producing 86 kw (115 hp) driving a Duc three-blade ground-adjustable propeller. This model has been operated in Europe for glider towing, examples operating in the United Kingdom, where it is only been available in kit form.
