History:
The Albany aeroplane was a single-engine monoplane along the lines of a Bleriot XI built in Albany, WA in about 1916/1917 by Messrs C Layton, Robert Reynolds and Alexander Fraser. Contemporary reports indicate a Mr G Bristowwas involved. One record indicates the spelling of his name might have been Baistow.
The aircraft was said to have been built on the local racecourse – although this is probably where it was assembled for attempted flight. After completion it was test flown from the racecourse, landing on a local beach, this being the same beach where Mr C de Garis landed when he flew across Australia, and from which Major Norman Brearley flew during barnstorming flights. Little is known about the Albany other than it was fitted with a three cylinder Anzani engine.
