History:
William ‘Willy’ Andiel was involved in the design and development of ultralight aircraft, numbering some 18 designs, and examples built by him and others known to have been completed are mentioned here and elsewhere in this tome. The scale replica of the Messerschmitt Bf-109 is mentioned elsewhere, but there were three aircraft which became known as the Andiel Special, these being registered with Recreation Aircraft Australia as 10-1278 (c/n 1), 10-1304 (c/n 2) and 10-1425 (c/n 3), these all being ultralight biplanes.
Other designs were the Typhoon S Tourer registered 19-4083 (c/n 1) and the Typhoon TD-1 registered 19-3882 (c/n 1).
Mr Andiel was also involved with a company Home Built Aviation which produced kit planes known as the Cyclone and the Typhoon, these being dealt with separately. Most of the aircraft have spent their lives in Queensland.
Further designs which have been described as ‘Little Tinnys’ were 19-4721 and 19-4722 but were officially registered as the Home Built 10KT. 19-4722 is known to have crashed and been destroyed on 28 March 2010 near Laidley, QLD. Another ‘Little Tinny”10-1797 (c/n 1) crashed two kilometres west of Armidale, NSW on 9 June 1997 whilst being tested by Mr Andiel who was killed and the aircraft was destroyed.
