History:
The British-designed and built Auster series of light aircraft has been popular in Australasia over the years and stories abound about what they have been used for and their roles in country areas. Many have been involved in accidents and have been rebuilt.
One such aircraft was a scale replica. Mr Peter Drew of Burra, SA operated VH-ABB but it hit a fence landing in South Australia in 1964 and was rebuilt using angle iron and farm implements. It was sold and flown to Western Australia and operated from a farm at Willyabruy. At some stage Mr Drew, using the airframe of a wrecked Auster, built a home-made scaled-down Auster at Burra but although believed to have been flown on occasion, it was never registered.
