The Custom Aircraft Full Metal Jacket was a newcomer to the light sport aircraft market (LSA) and was of all-metal construction built at Mildura, VIC, being a development of an aircraft known as The Bullet, which was a single-seat all-composite aircraft but about which little is known. The Full Metal Jacket aircraft was designed and built after discussions between Scott Taylor and Robert Herring of Custom Aircraft based at Mildura, VIC.
An aircraft described as a Custom Aircraft Full Metal Jacket was registered as 10-1345 (c/n QC-007) on 26 June 1992 but was withdrawn from operation in 1996.
A further aircraft known as the Custom Aircraft Full Metal Jacket FM.II 19-8176 (c/n 1) was first shown to the public at the Recreational Aviation Australia (RAA) annual event for Easter 2014 at Temora, NSW when it was flown from Lilydale, VIC to Temora in a time of 90 minutes. It appeared on the RAA Register as a Custom Aircraft FM.II and was first registered on 27 July 2012. It is reported another example will be built, and plans have been put in train to build a four-seat variant.
