History:
The Issoire Pik-30 was a French-built self-launched glider designed by Messrs Pekka Tammi and M Moniot. It was a single-seater. The wings and tail surfaces were of GFRP sandwich with a PVC core. The fuselage was of GFRP monocoque structure reinforced with carbon fibre. Issoire was part of the Siren group and it acquired a licence from Finnish glider builder Eiri Avion to build the Pik-20E but, proceeding with some development of its own, the new model was named the Pik-30.
The aircraft was powered by a 32 kw (43 hp) Rotax 503 engine and could be flown with a wing-span of 15 m (49 ft) or, with wingtip extensions, 17 m (55 ft 8 in).
Examples registered in this region have included ZK-GST (c/n 717) and ZK-GSZ (c/n 718). ZK-GST crashed and was destroyed on the Snowy Tops, Diadem Range about 17 km north-west of Omarama, NZ on 18 January 2012.
