History:
The Super Cub was provided in kit form by Javron Aviation, a division of Javron Precision Machining of Brainerd, Minnesota. It was an updated and developed version of the Piper PA-18 Super Cub using the original plans produced by the Piper Aircraft Company. The Javron Company was owned by Jay De Rosier who for many years manufactured Super Cub kits for amateur builders. The Company was a precision machine and certified welding facility located in the Brainerd Lakes area of north central Minnesota and was established as a small machine shop until it evolved into a global supplier of various services.
Javron has built Super Cub kits for registration in the Experimental Category and has included an “Alaska” modification to the airframe as standard. Kits have been built to the specifications of the builder. The Company has also developed kits to build the Piper PA-11, J-3 and PA-12 series. It has also built components for restoring older Cubs and Super Cubs.
The Javron aircraft had a gross empty weight of 476 kg (1,050 lb) and a gross weight of 998 kg (2,200 lb). The builder could build the fuselage with a standard 61 cm (24 in) or 71 cm (28 in) wide cabin. It was usually fitted with a 119 kw (160 hp) Lycoming O-320 engine but one example has been fitted with a Lycoming O-360-J-2A unit.
Aircraft could be fitted with rounded wingtips or squared-off wingtips, which allowed for larger flaps and ailerons. The windows were built to the builder’s specifications and it could be fitted with a cargo hold under the fuselage.
First example of the design seen in this part of the world was registered on 16 March 2017 to the owner / builder Philip Jones of Port Lincoln, SA, becoming VH-DPJ² (c/n 006061).
