History:
Mr Jones was the lecturer in charge at the East Sydney Technical College when classes were held in the 1930s in relation to aircraft design and construction and he himself was involved in the design and construction of a number of aircraft of his own design, and with the assistance of others. Previously he had been involved in the design and construction of an aircraft which was to be entered in the 1924 Lightplane Competition held at Richmond aerodrome west of Sydney. Despite all efforts the aircraft was not completed in time for the competition and was put aside to move on to other designs.
The aircraft was subsequently sold to Mr Ronald Gower, who had been planning to build his own aircraft, and was completed and flown, being named the Bonnie. Mr Jones also designed and built a six-cylinder two-row radial engine for aviation use. This engine was later presented to the Sydney University.
