History:
The prototype Renegade II first flew in May 1985 as a light homebuilt sporting biplane available as a ready assembled aircraft, but with plans and kits being available for home construction. Power plant was the 35 kw (48 hp) Rotax 503 engine, with the 503.V2 optional, although the Rotax 532, and Teledyne Continental O-65, O-75 and O-85 units could also be installed. It was subsequently developed into the Renegade Spirit, the prototype of which (C-IJLW) flew for the first time on 6 May 1987. This model could be fitted with similar power plants, as well as the 60 kw (80 hp) Rotax 912 four-cylinder unit, and the Norton rotary engine. The aircraft is one of a number of designs produced by Murphy Aviation of Chilliwack, British Colombia.
The Renegade Spirit is a two-seater fitted with dual controls. Most aircraft of the type built in this region had been registered under AUF/RAA rules, but one has been placed on the civil aircraft register, becoming VH-MQY (c/n 422 [also noted as Q.101]) in March 1995 but being exported to New Caledonia in January 1999.
