History:
The Spitfire Mk IV Replica was an 80 percent replica of the World War II Supermarine Spitfire, designed and initially produced by Brian Foxley-Conolly in Queensland, who had previously designed and commenced production of the Foxcon Terrier series of light aircraft. Aimed at the high-performance sport aircraft part of the market, it was basically of all composite construction and powered by a Chevrolet eight-cylinder Vee six-litre converted alloy automobile engine which produces 328 kw (440 hp). One tome states the aircraft was fitted with a Lycoming IO-360 engine.
The prototype (VH-BOI6 – c/n 1) was expected to be completed in 2006 and, after testing, production was to commence of a small batch of aircraft. It was first registered on 23 September 2004 and has also been known as the Foxcon Spitfire.
However by late 2015 it is not believed any further examples had been completed. Expected max speed is 482 km/h (300 mph).
