History:
The Stolareo was one of a number of ultralight aircraft designed by Steven Cohen and built by Ultralight Aviation, others including the Condor, Avenger and Avenger II. Designed to meet Australian regulation ANO 95.10 in the 1970s, the Stolareo, of which some 20 aircraft were built, was basically a development of the Skycraft Scout and had three axis control rather than employing elevator and rudder controls only. It was powered by an 18.65 kw (35 hp) Fuji Robin two-stroke engine and was built between 1976 and 1980, the engine later being changed to the Australian-built Salt unit, which was also used in the Condor and Mustang.
It was succeeded in production by the Condor and the Mustang. Eventually production moved to the Thruster series, which first flew in 1982 and which was built in Orange, NSW. Other ultralight designs by Mr Cohen included the “Tin thing” and the Mosquito, both being ultralight aircraft designs. An example of the Stolareo is held in the collection of the Power House Museum in Sydney, NSW.
