History:
This was one of a series of flying boats built in New Zealand for the New Zealand Flying School for training. The aircraft had a 52-kw (70-hp) Anzani radial air-cooled engine and its construction was financed by an American car dealer in Auckland, Reuben Dexter. The machine was built along the lines of Curtiss flying boats of the time and was built from scratch by the School using wings from the written-off Caudron that the School had previously operated on floats. The machine was flown for the first time on 1 January 1915 but was found to be underpowered, only achieving a max speed of 97-km/h (60-mph) and a take-off speed of 64 km/h (40 mph). By 1916 it had been retired after some use in the training role, and some parts were used in the construction of a replacement aircraft.
