History:
Designed as a simple to build and operate ultralight aircraft, the Magpie was designed by Mr William “Bill” Whitney and was built and flown by Messrs Clyde Howard and Arnold Trapp. The aircraft was initially based at Jacobs Well on the Queensla d Gold Coast and has been seen at a number of aviation events, including the Australian Ultralight Federation Natfly event at Narromine at Easter 2006.
Similar to a number of aircraft of this type, it has a single-boom fuselage with a tail to which is attached a tail wheel, the engine being forward and above the cockpit at the end of the boom. The cockpit hangs below the wing and is composite in construction with a Perspex windscreen.
First of the type completed became 19-3496 (c/n 1) under Recreation Aviation Australia (RAA) regulations on 8 February 2001.
