History:
The Whitney Scamp was a light sporting biplane with an open cockpit designed by Mr William ‘Bill” Whitney in Queensland for amateur construction by Mr Hargrave. It was of steel tube construction with fabric covering and was fully aerobatic. Work commenced in about 2000 and initially plans were to fit it with a Rotax 582 engine but in due course it was decided to fit the aircraft with the Australian designed-and-built Rotec R-2800 seven-cylinder radial engine of 75 kw (100 hp).
The aircraft was initially shown partially completed at an airshow at Caboolture, QLD in 2003 and was sold incomplete to Mr Mark Coletti and was completed at Redcliffe aerodrome, QLD from where it first flew during 2006, becoming 19-4701 (c/n 1) on the RAA register on 23 June 2006. It was withdrawn from use on 25 June 2008 and was later placed on the market for sale.
