History:
The Jackaroo was one of many designs produced by the late Colin Winton and his Company Winton Aircraft in Queensland. It was a single-seat high-wing open-cockpit aircraft, being first made available to pilots in about 1980. It was produced in a number of models, the Mk 1 and Mk 2 being the early configurations, the latter having a pod in lieu of the open framework, and both were powered by a direct drive 433 cc Fuji Robin engine, although some engines in later aircraft were replaced with more modern Rotax engines. The Mk 3, introduced in 1988, also had a pod and some other refinements, this model having a belt-drive Fuji Robin engine.
Examples registered with RAA include: 10-0123, 10-0184, 10-1004, 10-1067, 10-1017, 10-1058, 10-0248, 10-1343, 10-0340, 10-0729, 10-1394, 10-1350, 10-0345, 10-0618, 10-0519, 10-0630, 10-1117, 10-1120, and 10-1168. One Jackaroo, built from a kit, was modified by its builder in 1980 with a larger empennage and a fibreglass fuselage pod. It was fitted with fibreglass floats and a 30 kw (40 hp) Robin two-stroke industrial engine. Only a few are known to survive.
