History:
The Shock Cub is a development of the Savage Cub produced by Zlin Aviation in the Czech Republic, the new design receiving the name “Shock Cub” as it was expected to shock the aficionados of the Cub type of aircraft. The Savage Cub was the Company’s best-selling model in its range of light aircraft. It was considered the new design would “pleasantly shock” interested purchasers and had features unattainable in other designs. As compared to the Savage Cub, the Shock Cub has a totally new undercarriage with long-travel shock absorbers, tundra type tyres, an all new wing, which is claimed to have a hyper STOL profile, and double slotted flaps. Options include fixed carbon fibre slats and extra fuel capacity.
In the first six months of production 26 examples had been delivered, and during 2017 new examples were being fitted with the Rotax 912Is engine. Examples have also been delivered with the new Titan 340 engine, and some have been fitted with the turbocharged Rotax 914 engine providing 90 kw (120 hp). More recently examples have been fitted with the new MW unit, with one variant of this engine providing 112 kw (150 hp). Examples have been delivered to Italy, Romania, Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and the United States.
First example of the series in this part of the world was registered in New Zealand in early 2017, becoming ZK-EUP² (c/n 338) to its owner at Kaipara Flats. On 30 October 2017 it was cancelled from the NZ Register, dismantled and crated for shipment to a new owner in Australia where it became 23-1232 on 20 October 2017.
