History:
The C-42 was produced by Comco Ikarus GmbH at Hohentengen in Germany as a two-seat light sport aircraft for the ultralight market, and was available as a complete aircraft or in kit form. It proved very popular on the European market and, by the end of 2004, 58 had been delivered to operators in the United Kingdom.
Available with a tricycle undercarriage, the C-42 was normally fitted with a 75 kw (100 hp) [1,352 cc] Rotax 912S engine, had hydraulic disc brakes on the main wheels and had accommodation for two. Storage space was available under the seats. First of the series seen in this region was imported in mid 2005.
Development of the series continued to the C-42B Cyclone, a two-seat high-wing ultralight with a fixed tricycle undercarriage. It was developed as a successor to the C-22 Fox, which was a two-seat microlight.
Production of the C-42 series began in 1997 and by late 2005 over 600 examples had been delivered to customers around the world. The type has also been known as the Voyager and one of the first examples in Australia became 19-8409 (c/n 31192).
