The Spitfire Mk 1 being built in a boat shed in Victoria in 2018 by Rodney McNeill (Rodney McNeill)
History:
In March 2018 it was announced Mr Rodney McNeill, a Vietnam veteran, was building a full-scale replica of a Spitfire Mk I. The aircraft is built of carbon fibre and is powered by a motor-vehicle V-8 engine converted for aviation use. A three-blade propeller was built in South Australia. At that time work had been proceeding for eight years and a further two years would be required before completion. Mr McNeill is a retired farmer and built by hand all the parts, although some original Spitfire parts have been included in the aircraft.
